Relearning some SKiLLS

When I was little, one of the things I would do to pass the summers by would be crafting! Yes, even when I was little. One of my fun crafts to do for 4-H was sewing. You would sew your outfit and then you would model it down the cat walk like Christy Brinkly...
Let me just tell ya I was... HAWT!
Anyways, I haven't sewn from a pattern in years. I tried creating my own little pattern last spring for the girls I failed miserably waisted a ton of cute fabric {which I used just recently} and haven't tried again. Until, last night. My great friend Kat knows how to sew from a pattern so she came over and helped me sew :) It was a night of girls, music and fun fabric! I loved it.
Here is the semi-finished dress for Addie {actually Alaina's is the same but bigger} I just have to finish how i want to tie the bow and I think it is a bit wide! I'm in love though!

How to get BUTTER out of your shoes... wash it in the sink like it's a dish :)
Seriously, I never would have thought in my wildest dreams that my dear sweet Addie would be obsessed with smearing creamy things into my household things.
Let me get you all up to speed on the things she has gotten her hands on:
  • The original Desitin (you know the kind you can't even wipe of their butts) in my carpet
  • A full tube of toothpaste, in my carpet
  • A stick of butter, on my couch, pillow, her clothes, the carpet, my hairbrush and the bathroom floor.
Have a fabulous day!

Blogging Friends...

I'm finding out more and more the support that people give via the blogging world! It's fun to see perfect strangers becoming friends and supporting each other through life's ups and downs!
I found this blog through another blog! She does something every monday called

After reading these answers do you like me or loathe me?

Checkin' in

Do you like my new label cloud? It reminds me of a mass of bees flying around :) I'm trying to edit my labels. I have too many :)

I'm in the middle of organizing my office/craft room! It's been a jumbled mess for awhile now. I do really good for awhile and then all of a sudden it just gets on my nerves. Trying to streamline and purge a lot of what I don't need. File papers, create cubbies and hang things on the wall! I had a frame sitting in the goodwill pile. I snatched it up and replaced the print with linen covered cork-board :) I'm going to hang it on the wall! I love how it turned out. I will show everyone pics tomorrow on the new look! :)

So, I got my new printer almost a month ago and I just installed it yesterday :) What's my deal? Anyways, it didn't come with a USB cord (which I think is way annoying) so I am using the old one from the previous printer and it is way short. I'll have to do something about that?!

Yay for life!

The kids are excited about their grass, but actually I think I am more excited :)
It smells so good already!
I had a really great day today. A lot of things happened that just felt like true blessings. One of them being we were in the process of buying Alaina new shoes. They are shoes designed so that you don't have to wear your AFO's (foot and ankle braces)
We were hesitating because when all is said and done they are about $300 out of pocket!
We finally decided that we needed to bite the bullet because she walks a lot better in them than she does with the AFO's and regular shoes.
I happened to be talking about it with the director of Alaina's school and one of the mom's overheard me and said I have a pair that my son has hardly wore. If they fit Alaina you can have them!
Wow, so today we went in and guess what they fit perfect with some room to grow!
This is one thing that I am so thankful for today!
What is something you are thankful for?

Fun Gift Ideas!

Here is a simple library tote. I added fun pom poms or dingle balls whatever you choose to call them :) Plus I added an initial with a funky print! These can be custom made with the initial and color combo!

I bought the hat and scarf here

such great deals. I just thought it needed some sass! So I added a sweet fabric flower. It's attached to a clip so it could come off!

Here is my newest and sweetest creation! A little apron for that artsy child in your life. I will be putting some of these in the shop. Hopefully in the near future!

All of these would make great gifts. Actually, all of these were gifts :)
Last Saturday I was invited to a "hat" shower to honor a very dear lady! She is a young mom and is battling cancer right now. She had lost most of her hair and so our sunday school class put together a shower for her. It was so neat and what a blessing to everyone that attended, including Meg. If you are ever in the position to throw a hat shower for a friend or relative battling cancer you should! It was an experience I will never forget!

A fun morning

One Grande Mocha +

one DARLING little girl +
sausage links +

new BEST Friends =

One fun morning

When we drop off Alaina we have the whole day to do what our hearts desire!!!
So this day I had no errands and thought I would grab a starbucks and take lil' Lou Lou to the mall play area! She loves playing on the breakfast :)
This particular day she had made a new friend. They were running everywhere together and calling each other "best friend" actually we didn't find out her name until we left! I love to sit there and listen in on their little conversations. They don't even know that I am listening! I love that about kids. The funniest part about this is a nearby lady was sitting there with her daughter and grandson and that little girl was holding onto Addie's hand and went right up to her and said,
"Hi" says 'best friend'
the nearby lady replies "Well hi there sweetie"
the 'best friend' continues matter of fact, "We're twins!"
"Oh you are. Did you know that I am a twin too!?"
Wow, I'm thinking what are the chances?!

Procrastination at it's Best!!!

I was the biggest PROCRASTINATOR this past holiday season. I should have just gave up on it, but I had already purchased the expensive part of the project!

Any guesses?

I just finished my "New Year's Cards" Today! YIKES :)

As promised...

So I'm back like I promised and I have some fun new things I added to the girls room!
I recently decided that I should use what I have and change it up a little :)
So I took this frame that had our wedding picture in it. It was a nice frame. Kind of boring.
First I sanded it so that the paint would stick. Then I just used some pale pink craft paint. Layered it on... about 3-4 coats worked for me. Then I sanded all the edges a little to distress it a bit! I think it turned out so sweet! I also had this print from a Mary Englebreit magazine that was just laying around. It looked like the girls so I decided it was perfect!
Now when the hubby gets a job I can go out and get a new frame for our wedding photo :)
This is what I dig through everyday for a hair clip or bow for their bed hair! Not really all that fun to look at and it seems to always get dumped over or moved from one spot to the next!
It's really annoying. I have been wanting to make them a sweet little hair clip holder, but haven't had the... you guessed it... money :) Here's what a little digging got me!
I had this fabric originally to make the girls matching dresses. I didn't make the dresses, so I have a lot of this fabric. It's spunky enough, I'll make it work!
Next I found this old canvas, sitting in our garage sale pile. The painting is not horrible, but not me:) so voila I've got me a sturdy canvas. Slight problem I have no staple gun... my trusty hot glue gun to the rescue!
With a little digging, imagination and my hot glue gun look what I made :) Don't you just adore those pom poms on the bottom?
Now I have some sweet items to fill the space in between their closets!
Hope that this post has inspired you to do a little digging and a little organizing :)

Crazy in LOVE!

So I had today off again! :) I have been in a mood lately of organizing and changing things up! Today was no different! I am sick of looking at the same thing over and over and not liking it!
Slight problem. We have NO extra income to spend on what we deem as "frivolous" spending. And unfortunately home decor falls under the category as frivolous. So for now I am left to be creative with what I have. I saw a blog once that this was her job. She would come into your house and redecorate with your stuff. She did an amazing job. I just can't think of her name!?
So without further ado here is the before picture of my dining room...
(This is how it has looked for pretty much 8 1/2 years, sad isn't it?)
It doesn't even feel like the same room to me! I turned the dining room table. I've never really thought to do this before, it is oval and I just assumed there would be no room, I was wrong! I brought in a dresser that wasn't being used and now I have extra storage. I am planning on putting a lot of the kids crafting/art supplies in there and some other things.
Not quite sure yet!
I've had this fun plate rack for about 3 years and just now hanging it up! What is my problem?
I did overcome one of my fears today... I put a new hole in the wall to hang the lovely plate rack! I love how it turned out. I didn't have 3 red plates, which I thought I did?! I guess I will have to keep my eyes peeled for a great deal at TJ Maxx or something! The floral print was hanging over my fireplace at one point, now in the dining room! I love it. It just really makes the dining room very quaint and homey!
Now onto SPRING
It's not coming fast enough. So, I decided to bring a little of spring into my house. It will be a fun thing for the kids too! I just found a fun container that I had laying around and added dirt from the garage and some grass seed :) The girls watered it with a spray bottle (kind of like rain.) They were so excited to do this, and can't wait to see grass! I'm thinking in a week or so we will see something! I'll keep you posted. There is nothing like the smell of fresh grass to perk up the winter blahs!!!!
Maybe I will tackle the living room tomorrow? Oh man do I have my work cut out for me!
I also have a few other projects that I am trying to figure out how to do with no money :)
A hair clip canvas for the girl's room, and I just found a boring wood frame that I've painted a pale pink, I think I found the perfect print to go into it! More on that tomorrow!

A Transformation!

As a mom I am not partial to stains on my kids clothes. In fact I loathe them. But they are kids, so lets be realistic here! (Don't worry I don't scream or yell at my girls when a stain occurs!)
Well, believe it or not that is why I like white clothing. The wonderful and fabulous bleach pen to the rescue. Only this last time that purple marker is not budging! Weird.
In the past, I would normally chuck it directly into the play clothes pile. Not this time!
After being addicted to all these crafty blogs I found a great idea here. Just hide your sweet, stained clothes with a fun and funky applique!
I couldn't resist taking this picture of Addie today. The sun was out, she was all cuddled up and sucking that sweet thumb of hers! I just love thumb suckers. Yes she is 3 and yes I don't care :)
I had to capture the full view here... If you can see she has her Polly Pocket (a.k.a. "Barbie Pocket") all tucked in her blankie for a nap! Too sweet.

Okay, here it is my next project I would really like to tackle! The hall/linen/whatever closet. Seriously when I open it stuff falls out and when I go to shut it I have to throw it in and slam it shut! We primarily use it for our games and activities for the kids. But if you can see all the way at the bottom I cram my sheets down there and when I say cram I mean cram!!!
I am really super sick of this thing we call a closet. I have no clue what to do and how to go about doing this! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Where do you put all of your games?
Do you store your sheets in the bedroom they are intended to be used?
Please help me out!

Changing it up...

Well, lately it has been really hard to stay positive with the whole job situation and the
I mean seriously, could it be any grayer or gloomy out. Not to mention with record low temps and a butt load of snow! Can you tell I am really ready for Spring?
Usually, I do not feel the effects of the "winter blahs", but this year has been different. My body must really be deprived of Vitamin D.
Well guess what happened today! The glorious sun came OUT!!!!!!! I have been motivated all day. Plus, it may help that today is our first day off from school. So not only is the sun shining, but I am home to enjoy it :) Today has been GREAT.
Oh Crap, as I'm typing this the sun went away and it is snowing!!! Seriously!
Yesterday and today I have tackled a huge project. Cleaning and organizing my kids room! You would think that two little girls wouldn't mess up a room, right. Especially two girls that are hardly ever in their room! WRONG. Just yesterday, I was unsure if there was even a floor in there! Not joking or exaggerating. I had been buying some things here and there to decorate their room, but just wanted to wait until I knew where everything was going to go. This is the A.R. coming out in me. Yesterday, I said, "wait no longer" I need a change and I need it now! So because I didn't have everything I needed or wanted to change up their room I pulled stuff from around the house. Which I've never done before, but all you bloggers out there that have a real knack for decorating have inspired me!
This is a greeting card my wonderful cousin gave to us. It has a lovely heartfelt message inside and I just LOVE it! So I framed it, I had a picture of Addie as a baby in this frame, sitting on an end table in the living room. Voila! Bonus there was even a screw right where I hung it. One less hole to have to patch and paint over!
This adorable cradle was give to the girls for Christmas from their Grandma. It's so cute. It acts as storage too. When they aren't playing with it all the dolls, blankets and pillows go in!
I bought these letters at Jo-Ann's. I'm not crazy about them, but I didn't have to make them! I still want to add cute bows to the ends of the ribbon to create a more finished look, but for now they are up! I still want to hang some sort of picture in between their closet doors.
(I forgot to add the pic of the book shelf that I brought into their room from the bathroom. It was being used for towels and magazines, but now has some of their books, toys and games.)
Here is their tent they got for Christmas! It came with a matching backpack, water bottle, flashlight and sleeping bag! So cute! FYI... There are a lot of toys I put in there to "hide" for now :) Once the hubby gets a job, my plan is to have a friend build a custom shelving unit or something for stray toys!

I love these little hooks! The birds on top are just too sweet! The goal for now is when they wake up and get dressed they need to hang up their jammies so when we go to bed we aren't looking everywhere for them!
This is the lighting fixture for now. I just love it, but once we put it up we realized how yellow it makes everything look! Especially at night. So if anyone has this do you have any suggestions on how to use it and make the room not look so icky? I guess it was only $20 what do I expect.
So there you have it in a nutshell! Sorry for those of you that like before and after pics. I was in no frame of mind to even think about taking a before picture. It was that messy!
Now, it is so neat and tidy I am just in awe! Breathing a sigh of relief!
